SUMMARY:The power of data for Nature
DESCRIPTION:The Power of Data for Nature\nRecording species is very important and often overlooked as a good way to help local wildlife.  It can be a fun and relaxing way to take part in citizen science. \nVictoria Kleanhous from Greenspace information for Greater London (GiGL) will join us on evening of 18th June at Deny’s Hall\, Church Street at 6.30pm to explain the work they do at GiGL and how we can all help record species across Chiswick\, and other areas\, to help build a green database of local flora and fauna. \nVicky will show how successful the GiGL database can be!  A good example is it’s use to help save the green space – Warren Farm. \nAfter the talk we will spend time recording species in the Church Cemetery so everyone can either try iNaturalist app or the wildchiswick.com/naturesurvey form. \nNOTE:  Places for this event are limited.  Best to register early! \nThis talk ties in with the WildChiswick Nature Survey Competition that runs from 31st May until 31st October.  Click here to learn more

DESCRIPTION:(Photo credit – Zoe Broughton)\nAN EVENING WITH HUGH WARWICK –  \nCONSERVATIONIST\, HEDGEHOG LOVER\, AUTHOR AND THOUGHT-PROVOKER. \nHugh Warwick is well known for his interesting\, entertaining and often thought-provoking talks. Whether he is talking about his favourite animal – the hedgehog\, the importance of habitat connectivity for wildlife\, or the more controversial aspects of wildlife conservation\, you can never quite be sure where Hugh’s talk will take you! \nOne thing we do know for sure\,  is that it will be fascinating\, informative and entertaining — and there’s a good chance we’ll hear about one\, if not all\, of the above topics during the evening. \nHugh is a spokesperson for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and has worked for over 25 years to protect hedgehogs across Britain. \nHugh has written several books which include A Prickly Affair – about his conservation work with hedgehogs\, Linescapes – exploring how the lines we have created across our countryside can fragment\, yet also reconnect wildlife habitats\, and his latest and controversial book – Cull of the Wild\, which investigates the difficult question of whether culling wildlife can be justified in the name of conservation. \nIf you have heard Hugh speak before\, or have read any of his books\, We are sure you will want to come along.
