Last year we posted about a hedgehog that has been spotted in Chertsey Road Allotments. This was the first hedgehog to be sighted outside of the Grove Park and Strand on the Green area. We wondered if he was the only hedgehog to be found around Dukes Meadows.
It appears that he/she is not the only hedgehog in Dukes Meadows!
Last November we helped rescue 3 baby hedgehogs on the Promenade Allotments. We had reports of hedgehogs around the St Nicolas’ Church area and working with ZSL, we sighted hedgehogs in the Dukes Meadow Allotments!
We do not know how the hedgehogs have come about in the Dukes Meadow Area. One of our hypothesis is that they have been using the railway line to venture to new territory.
Either way, it is important that we open up green corridors and new, suitable feeding places for them to move around, feed and nest.
Over 5 years now we have been making hedgehog highways where we can across hedgehog territory in Chiswick. Now it is time to do this across Dukes Meadows. Contact up on hogs@wildchiswick.com if you can help a hedgehog survive! We will work with you to make your garden or communal green space more hedgehog friendly and drill a small 13cm hole in your fence to allow hedgehogs through.
